This is a list of some sites I use (no relation to me at all) for "invisible web" type searches.

This is in no way authoritative. Just thought you might find it useful. (I like playing with the wayback machine, myself...)

This is a new thread based on a post I made a bit back, and scottiec1 very kindly suggested I move it here. I've added a few since then, as well. PLEASE feel free to add more!

Ian

Scirius
The science search engine

Internet Archive (Wayback Machine)
An archive of historical websites - what did Yahoo look like 3 years ago? Now you can look! Some of my old websites are there (from 1994!) Very neat.

Find Law
a great resource for those seeking legal data (US - centric)

The Internet Movie Database (IMDB)
THE site for when you need any movie-related information.

FindArticles.com
provides access to an archive of articles from over 300 magazines stretching back to 1998.

eBizSearch
An experimental search engine focusing on academic and commercially produced articles and reports about e-Business

Search Systems Public Record Locator
A great resource for public records

Research Index
Research Index is a search engine focusing on computer science research and articles.

Singingfish
is an unrivaled site for those seeking streaming audio or video files from across the web and extremely useful to those seeking this type of content.

The Thomas Register $$$
Thomas Register is the most comprehensive online resource for finding companies and products manufactured in North America. Commercial.

Alibaba $$$
The worlds largest directory of suppliers - basically Thomas Register for Asia and other non US areas. Commercial.

The US Patent and Trademark Office
Very useful for research and for following trends.

Librarians Index to the Internet
An amazing directory full of actually useful info. Doesn't accept commercial sites unless there is a lot of freely available useful info on it. Honestly, I use this the way I used to use Yahoo. Please don't spam them. I'll hunt you down. I will. I've already lost Dmoz and Yahoo as useful and I'm getting cranky.
