Hi folks,
I hope that this is the right forum to post this question.
I work for a small web design and marketing shop and a couple of our clients have requested that we focus on international search engines to promote their websites.
We're specifically looking at these countries to start:
Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Luxembourg.
At least initially we're thinking that Google Pay-Per-Click might offer the best return on investment for our clients.
Firstly, does anyone have any specific advice or experience to share on how we should approach a campaign like this?
Secondly, can anyone recommend specific search engines to for each country that we should direct our attention to. Is Google PPC a good option in this instance, or should we be looking at particular SE's for each country?
Thirdly, are there any pitfalls that we should be aware of in starting out this kind of campaign?
Thanks very much for reading and any help is greatly appreciated.
John

Hi johni,
the international search engine relationships info on Search Engine Watch will probably give you a good idea on who's powering what in Europe:

As far as Google goes you can do geo-selection so you can limit the countries that see your ads. It reduces the cost dramatically in most cases.
You can also do languages. Choose the specific ones you have the site translated to, Google will not send traffic to an English site for another languages searches.
You can do similar types of targeting at Overture. ESpotting covers a couple of those countries and as has been mentioned you can get a thorough list at SearchEngineWatch

You may have already covered this, so simply ignore this post if you have...
While SEW gives you a good overview of the main players in each market, you'll probably need to do some quick research on the relevant SEs in each country to find out which PPCs are actually being used to promote products that are similar to your clients' products.
Google AdWords is great in the UK, but it might be a poor second in say Poland, or wherever.
Just my tuppence worth...

I think Alexa does a country listing for search engines... if not see if they offer info on european rankings and watch for your languages etc.
