Hi,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the most PR out of a domain. Like if I have domain A with a PR of 4 and domain B with a PR of 4 also, what's the best way to get as much PR from domain B to domain A?

I've tried a number of ways over the past few months but none of the ways have been able to increase my PR by 1, which was my goal and its kind of hard to determine the pagerank increases or decreases using googlebar.

One idea I tried was leaving all the links on the main page alone and javascripting all the links on the pages leading from the main page except the link back to the main page and then adding a link on each page to domain A.

I've tried the PR calculator on web workshop, but does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome, Incognito! :aloha:

You need outside links to both of the sites in order to increase PR. Otherwise, you're simply just spreading the same PR around, and probably even weakening it in the process.

Hiding links through javascript is just a dumb trick, and one to avoid at all costs.

In addition to what Jill said, remember - a domain doesn't have any PR. Each page on the domain has its own PR. You don't see it often, but it happens quite a bit where a deep page on a site actually has more PR than the root page.

This being the case, there's only so much PR linking power a page has. When you link to another page, the page being linked to gets the value of that linking power divided by the total number of links on the page.

Reducing the number of other links on the linking page is the only way to increase the power of the link to your target page without obtaining more links to the originating page in the first place.

Remember, though, as you reduce those links and increase the power of that target link, other factors besides PR will kick in, so at some point, you will gain PR on the target page at the cost of some other ranking factor.

Grumpus,

I'm working with a PR7 site to give me some links. On their index page they have about 50 links to industry sites. I'd assume I wouldn't get too much benefit from a link on that page, correct?
