Keyword Density Within Internal Links
Posted 06 January 2004 - 11:35 PM
I am just wondering if a high keyword density within internal links will negatively affect my ranking.
For example, if I am writing some text for a keyword (lets call it 'key') and although I don't have an extremely high density of keyword density within the text, all of my internal links are related to this keyword. For example every internal link starts with 'key .......'.
Is it likely this will negatively affect my ranking, or as long as each page is indeed relevant to how the internal link describes it will it be ok?
Thanks for the help, and thanks for the nice forum!

Does it look and/or sound stupid to create the links the way you're doing them? If so, it's probably not a good idea.
If it seems to make sense from a users perspective, i.e., it actually helps them, then it's doubtful it would be any kind of problem with the engines.
You need to look at your page as a whole when thinking about its keyword density. If keywords appear to be stuffed all over the place will-nilly, that's when the search engines may sit up and take notice (not in a good way).
Really, just use your common sense. If your gut is telling you that what you're doing is a search engine no-no, then you should certainly think twice or three times about it!

Basically each title, and each story is based on one particularly keyword, so I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem, though I am not sure. Thanks for the reply and welcome though, and I guess I will give it a go.

That's exactly what gets people into trouble!

My sites so far have been on subjects with which keywords weren't too rich, so this is my first attempt at a site that will have a lot of keyword density. That said though, it will still remain a very good site for surfers, and bookmarkers alike. I was just unsure as to whether there was really a rule about this kind of stuff.
Guess I will just see how it goes
