What Mailing List Program Do You Use?
Posted 06 January 2004 - 05:02 PM
I was just wondering what Mailing List program anyone could recommend to me. I want to start sending a News letter on my website, but so many programs to choose from some of which are very confusing, which one works for you?

I just signed up for AWeber's service. It looks like just an autoresponder service from their site copy but it's a full featured mailing service. It is so full featured, I'm confused as heck on how to get everything working right. But I'm told it's a good service so I'm going to figure it out.

I create, write, and manage email newsletters for my clients, and I always set them up with CC. I don't want to hassle with other vendors that might not be so easy to deal with. I used to manage a corporate email list that was on majordomo - these email list vendors are a HUGE improvement over the old days!

The caveat is that you have to learn how to use it as each one is a little different, but documentation is always available on the mailing list software's sales/marketing site.
If you're lucky, you'll have one of the popular ones installed and you'll be able to find all the pre-made scripts you need for opt-in and out and all that kind of stuff.

I can send up to 10,000 emails a month, have multiple lists, html/text/AOL formats, segmenting, opens tracking, clicks tracking by URL, choice of confirmed or not, automatic sub/unsub, welcome and goodbye messages, easy list cleaning, import/export, choice of demographics plus add my own.
They provide html templates with automatic generation of text and AOL newsletters. You can use your own design as well.
There's more I'm sure, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. Price is $25.00 per month with discount for pre-pay.

But now it's starting to get a little too expensive. We have 5,000 email addresses and send out 10,000+ emails a month. I think the charge is $50 per month.
Topica looks good, but since we send out more than 10,000 emails a month I think the charge for us would be about $45 per month. So that seems about the same.
Can anyone recommend a good email system that would charge $25 or less, and allow us to work with 15,000+ email addresses?
