Well, I can buy that. I don't think any amount of enthusiasm will do it alone, though. There still has to be a message that directly addresses the person's concerns.Enthusiasm is the communicators best tool.

Meta, how do you get "do it all" from "best tool"?Well, I can buy that. I don't think any amount of enthusiasm will do it alone, though. There still has to be a message that directly addresses the person's concerns.

I don't get "do it all" from "best tool." The context of the discussion was "other people's reactions," which I took as "why aren't people excited by this message and what does it take to get them excited?" So my reaction to the post about enthusiasm was - yes, it's important to have enthusiasm, but you still need to shape the message in terms that are meaningful to your audience.Meta, how do you get "do it all" from "best tool"?

Many entrepreneurs I've met are truly enthusiastic about their work, and they have offerings that are genuinely valuable, but they aren't bringing in business because they cannot explain what they do in terms that their prospective customers can appreciate.

That is an excellent point. I've worked with several people who were absolutely brilliant and excited and you couldn't figure out what the heck they were talking about most of the time. Many entrepreneurs I've met are truly enthusiastic about their work, and they have offerings that are genuinely valuable, but they aren't bringing in business because they cannot explain what they do in terms that their prospective customers can appreciate.

No I am not that bad, well I can't be, or else I wouldn't get the volume of sales I have gotten over the years.
It all comes down to the old 'who, what, when, why, where, and How' you cover all those bases, and cover them with enthusiasm, and you will get anyone with an interest more interested.
One thing I know though is that in the bulk of cases when someone asks 'what do you do then' the last thing they want to know really is 'what you do' . My stock answer is 'Oh i mess about on the web', what do you do? or 'trust me you really don't want to get me started about what I do or I will never stop'

Thats like going into a sweet shop and asking for half a dozen 'hundreds and thousands'
<afterthought> 'hundreds and thousands are those little coloured things that get sprinkled on kids cakes
PPS when i said 'ain't that the truth', I was referring to me not being able to stop telling them lol
