Building your internet business solely around traffic from Google and thinking everything else will fall in place if you do well there. Theres other avenues to try such as the social media side, and probably the most overlooked is traditional offline methods which still work really well.
Getting too hung up on the traffic stats coming into your site and not watching quality issues for example are the visitors coming into your site just button pressers or leads and customers, and then ask why, even if things are working well, you still need to know why, if things are working well in one particular section of your site you can then transfer that success accross the board.
If you're having a site built for you and during preliminary meetings the designer says 'You'll do well on the SE's because I'll add you to my extensive network of linked sites' take their cup of tea off them and politely ask them to leave, or if you have the facility press the eject button.
