Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't, and there doesn't appear to be any rhyme nor reason. Cookies are good, else it would never work. Browser session doesn't seem to matter one way or the other. I've even checked my IP (which rotates occasionally, though not frequently) and that doesn't seem to be a catalyst either. I've about concluded the server just doesn't like me any more.

FWIW, I just checked the cookies and the ones that need to be more persistent seem to be just fine.
ipb_stronghold and member_id expire after a year.
pass_hash after a week.
coppa (no idea what that one is, unless it stands for copper as in policeman because I was logging in with Netscape while already logged in via IE. It's easier to see cookie info in Netscape) and session_id expire at the end of the session. But a cookieized SID should expire at the end of the session.

I do reboot every few days, John (God bless Microsoft), but haven't seen any correlation.
It's for the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, Randy. If anyone twelve or under tries to register (which requires an email address and thus infringes on the kid's privacy), the parent has to stand on one leg and sing three choruses of Yankee Doodle Dandy before the kid can join. Or, uh, something like that. I doubt HR has it enabled, though.

I believe what's happening is that there is now a Stronghold Cookie that identifies your login cookie which is more secure... it prevents cookie theft. But I believe causes you to have to re-login every time you access the forum from a different computer with your login.
If you use the same computer alllll the time and have to login every time, let me know.
I'll see about disabling the Stronghold Cookie in the meantime and see if that helps.

Work? What's that?
Nope, always the same computer, Scottie. And since I'm usually here a dozen times a day, it's typically even the same browser session.

I know it won't let me log into the forum via Netscape if the forum senses me already logged in via IE. It looks like it's trying to log me in, even tells me it's logging me in, but when it returns back to the forum page it still says Welcome Guest at the top.
Dunno though, I seem to be able to open up multiple browser windows in IE and all of them have me logged in, if I stick with just IE. Of course they're all using the same cookies too, so that's prolly neither here nor there.

As a matter of fact, I hadn't had to log in again in several days, then I did again this morning when I came in to work.
I'll try to keep a closer track of it to see if I notice any patterns.
on edit: Randy, just noticed what you wrote above. That's weird. I tested it and just logged in simutaneously on the same machine using Firefox, IE7, Mozilla and Opera, no problems noted. I do sometimes log in on two different browsers for various reasons and have never had a problem with it.
