Is it only my site or some one else also seeing ranking fluctuating ... and this is like #3 in the morning and later in the evening, its "gone" no where in top 100 ... I check other data centers, it still seem to have #3 rank.

And if it is happening can some one tell me what does it mean to be # 3 and then gone completly ...

Any one else seeing this?

My site has just started showing up in Google serp's for decent keyword phrases, as of TODAY! However, it is ranking well at times, and totally not there other times that I search for it. Still other times, it is up near 100.

Sorry, but I don't have any idea why this is happening. I'm happy that at least they started to recognize my site because it has been a very long time in comming.

Does anyone else know what this is all about?

That's pretty normal Alan. Most likely you're simple hitting different datacenters with your searches, some of which have newly updated information (such as being released from the aging delay), some of which are completely up to date and some of which are mid-way through the process.

Just give it a week or two for all of the DC's to catch up. If there's nothing else going on currently that they end up backing out of, it sounds like you'll be pleased when it's all over.

I haven't noticed anything outside the norm webkid_san. However I must qualify this statement by saying that I don't really watch rankings. I watch traffic and conversions, both of which I expect to fluctuate wildly over holiday weekends.

Which brings us to another thing. Of late Google many times seems to be using both weekends and especially holiday weekends to test out new algorithm tweaks. I can only assume they do it then because they realize there is less traffic (generally speaking) during these times, so it gives them a way to do some testing without ticking off everybody and their grandmother if something isn't quite right.

It's quite possible this is what you're seeing since it is a long, holiday weekend in the US. Many left work and/or home Wednesday and won't be back until Monday. So it's entirely possible they're testing some algorithm updates, which may or may not stick come Monday.

Hi Randy,

I will get on my knees and pray that it sticks, or gets better. I have been working towards this for many, many months. I started to work on my site last February, and went full time on it last June. Thus far traffic has been lousy. I am just starting to rank in Yahoo as well. So finally ranking and receiving traffic would be a nice Christmas present. clapping.gif

Thanks for your info.

Alan

Google launched some sort of update last weekend. It doesn't seem to have been rolled back, but it does appear they recrawled all or part of the Web as part of the update.

This was not the normal weekly data push that usually happens on Sunday evenings (they have been doing that for about two years). This was something else. I lost quite a few rankings for several days but they have come back.

SE Roundtable had a post about the update earlier this week but there hasn't been much buzz. It seems to have been a relatively soft update, compared to some of the bigger historical changeouts.

Okay who's going to name it then. How about Turkey? Yes could you imagine everyone referring to a Google update as Turkey? lol.gif

I've just been referring to it as the Google November 2006 update, but I don't think it's bad enough to warrant a name like the Turkey Update. I don't like the naming conventions anyway, since they don't tell people when the updates occurred.

Not to mention that it's not nearly as dramatic as the November Updates the last two years have been.

Either it wasn't all that major, or maybe Google has finally figured out that it's not necessarily a good idea to implement major algo updates smack in the middle of the Christmas shopping season.

That said, I still haven't seen any major movement on any of my sites. If anything some have moved up a couple of spots. But nothing that remotely resembles any sort of major update. If it were major --and not targeted at one little thing-- I would expect at least one of the sites to be somehow affected.

Last week I saw about three of my trophy search terms that have maintained a consistent position for several months disappear out of the top 30 - although other search terms continued to maintain their ranking and the overall Google traffic remained fairly consistent.

However, this weekend the trophy search terms all seem to have come back to their original or better than original positions, I wonder for how long?

I'd prefer to think that as my favourite clients new website and my company's new one went live on November 7th and 20th respectively, Google decided to shift and change the world around how fantabulous it is! angel_not.gif

I've seen big changes in terms of traffic from Google over the weekend - and yesterday was the highest in terms of recorded traffic we've enjoyed.

Haven't checked the rankings, but the amount of traffic from Google suggests something's changed - or that the changes we put in place a few weeks ago were absolutely brilliant....

I think it might be the former.
