OK, it's time to start looking for another laptop. Nothing's really "wrong" with this one (well, except that the ethernet card took a hit of lightening and died). It's just getting overtaken by larger and larger updates of XP, Norton and other products. It's moving more and more slowly every day.

So, who loves their laptop, how long have you had it and would recommend it? Or, who knows how to make my processor go faster smile.gif

Jill, you should be chiming in here. You've owned just about every brand of laptop!

I read somewhere that while pretty much any anti-virus software is going to hog your resources, Norton's the worst of the lot.

You should throw in another gig of RAM. That will help a lot.

I love my 80gig Averatec notebook with wi-fi. Its light (~4lbs) and very stable.

Really? Never heard of that brand. How long have you had it?

I've got 17 gig left on my hard drive. I can't find where to see how much free RAM is left right now. Where did that go? I don't think I'm approaching my cap. on RAM though.

I love my Dell laptop. Had it for 18 months or so now, and it has been rock solid.

And I'd drop Norton and replace it with AVG Free. MUCH better, and plays better with others, too.

Dell and AVG are two choices that I've been very happy with.

What's AVG Free? Don't know about that.

I love Dell but they don't have a 17" with a built-in numbers keypad. (Something I would really like to have.)

I have a Dell desktop that is about 6 years old and still in great shape.

You're a copywriter. Why do you need numbers? biggrin.gif

AVG Free is incredible: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 You'll want to turn off the "email certifying," though, unless you want an AVG footer in all your emails.

AVG Free edition. I also use this and highly recommend it. thumbup1.gif

Grisoft also has paid versions if you want more features.

<edit> Must type faster! </edit>

Ditto on loving my Dell laptop. theswim.gif dance.gif

Did you just say SIX YEARS? That's amazing!

I bought an HP Pavillion laptop not quite a year ago and it's recently started crashing and blue-screening on me (I'm more meticulous about backups now than ever too. Run 'em constantly, both onsite and offsite ones. I even backup my emails wink.gif).

Maybe I'll switch to Dell. Or maybe it's a Windows/MS thing!

Sorry to hear that Karri, I hope that the power supply doesn't go skew whiff on you, like it did with me sad.gif

Anyways, I'd better shut it, don't want to turn this into an I hate HP pavilion laptops thread..wink.gif

I'm a fan of IBM laptops... I'd still be using my first one if I hadn't knocked it off the table and cracked the display. cry.gif

Yeah, IBM makes an awesome laptop and they have one of the highest satisfaction & tech support ratings. I'm not very fond of that mouse button though. I guess I could get used to it.
