Hello everyone.

Which ads are better image or text. I am trying to maximize the return from each click on my site with AdSense. Does anyone have experience with images making more $ or more clicks than text ads? Someone told me that and i am a bit sceptical... What do you think? panic.gif

Thank you
Dmitriy

I did not read any findings on this but as for my personal thought, text ads work better than images. Images look like the banners of the past which people were trying to avoid. Properly written text ads provide more direct information without spending too much time reading.

I have no basis on this though but my personal experience when I encounter these ads.

Why not try both and see for yourself works better? That's the only way to know for sure. Much better than anyone else telling you. Never hurts to experiment.

With Google's custom tracking channels it's easier than ever to track performance down to the size, placement, formatting, and type of ads you host on your site. Just try some different things out on different areas of your site for whatever period of time you're comfortable with and run those custom reports. I'm doing that very thing now and I hope to be able to come back shortly and share what I see.

Good luck.

image ads tend to be CPM

and those seem to pay less if you get lots of clicks

Im sure it stats somewhere in the ad set up that image ads wil only be displayed if the value is percived to be higher than the text ads. Therefore I would suggest using the 'both' option

I believe this is right. Google shows ads from their inventory with the highest value. Turn on both and don't worry about that. Better off testing things like color, size and and placement on page if you are looking to optimize eCPM.

Not necessarily. AdWords ads are billed on a CPM basis only when a 'site targeted' campaign is launched, otherwise if the image ads are part of the 'regular' campaign running also on the Google content network, then it's CPC.

Think about this: there are much more competitors bidding on keywords using text ads then there are using image ads; therefore images ads are cheaper, i.e. lower CPC... lower payout. My 2cent from an AdWords advertiser's point of view.
