Worth Getting A Link On A Pr0 Page?
Posted 22 August 2006 - 03:09 PM
Is it worth me getting a link on PR0 page?
This is quite a common situation, many sites have link directories. I'm only looking at sites link directories which are on sites related broadly to my site.
I can then choose to submit my link to there directory in the specific category related to my site.
However I'm finding most of these pages are PR0, even if I can get this to be a one way link is it basically a waste of time?
Other pages on the sites have PR, there link pages dont, so is google telling me there worthless?
Have they any value to Yahoo or MSN as regards them improving my link popularity value?
The positives are that I'm getting my link on a page relevant to my site.
However I doubt very much I would get traffic from these pages.

Links from pages that nobody uses are pointless.
And don't look at the PR indicator. It's more likely to confuse you than to provide useful guidance.

Is it worth what? Are you paying for the link?

I'm not paying for the link but it would be using my time submitting a request for my link to be added on a page that is unlikely read by vistors.
If they have even a small amount of value then if I get a few of these it may help me in the SERP's?
What if it has a PR0 but the page is google cached would it then be worthwhile?
These aren't new sites or pages, in fact they likely previously had PR of a value 1 or above, but recently alot of these type of pages have seen there PR disappear.

I'm sure you can spare the 1 minute, no?
Today's PR0 is potentially tomorrow's PR8.

"There is no such thing as a pr Zero page (unless the page is penalized) they just appear that way on the dumbgreen bar. it is a funny fact that all websites, even pr10 sites started out with a PR of very little, in fact, nothing"
If theres no such thing as a pr zero page
How come some sites started out with nothing. As you state above.
Maybe im missing something but to me zero means nothing.

Google gives these pages PR0 so are they telling us these link directory pages are worthless? In effect all they are for is link building and not actually truly recommending other sites to there vistors.
I'm only looking at adding my links to sites on the same topic of mine but some of them have wide broad topic link directories. I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time. There's quite a few of these sites I could submit to, alot seem to be run through links manager.

You can quickly assess this situation by addressing it from your visitors point of view...will it benefit them?

I will submit our listing for a free link in a directory with a PR 0. I agree with Jill, it could some day be a PR of 8. I will NOT Pay to submit a link in a directory with a PR0.
Have a great day.

"Today's PR0 is potentially tomorrow's PR8"
What I'll add is that Google might be playing "tricks" and showing PR0 or PR1 for quality sites as this PR tool is mostly used by SEO folks. I found very good quality sites with good amount of traffic to have a PR of 3 or less.
Stop looking at PR. Look at the relevance in content and target market.

Most sites get most of they traffic from the se's.
Unless you have a site that give reason for continual revisits like a forum.
