Ok, quick question/thought:
Any thoughts on the concept of paying a monthly fee (say $80/mth) for a text-ad-link on a page that has a PR of 6 or 7?
My thought is this - if I can get some good link traffic by having a high profile link so that my sales/revenue are at least $80+ from having that link - then isn't it a good idea?
So I'm also hoping that the keywords I'm focusing on would also be helped in the search engines because of this high profile link. Make sense?
Lastly, what if I only earned $70 in revenue from direct traffic from the link - would it still be worth it to be listed on that high profile page considering I'd be boosting my link-power for my keywords?
You're thoughts? I've never really paid for links before...

Sometimes link buys can be beneficial while other times they may not. One needs to decide what they want out of it - better rankings, increase Google PR, direct traffic, etc. and then measure results.

Securing a link buy that brings traffic and supports keyword anchors is a good thing IMO and what I strive for when buying links.
I know most people want formulas and easy answers when it comes to linking but the reality is - it's a lot of gut feeling and tedious work to find the right/best kind of sites to secure links from so it's hard to say if your numbers will work - or not.
It's really no different than trying to determine if you'll get more exposure/return from the yellow pages or money mailers when trying to decide where to spend your ad dollars.
If you find high profile sites (translation - sites that rank well and are a place where your demographic hangs out) that happen to have high Page Rank - great buy it!
If you also happen to find high profile sites with low(er) Page Rank - great, go for it. I believe the Page Rank of the site shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether or not to buy a link. Let your customers drive your decisions, not a meter of green.
Pop over to textlinkads and check out the 'how to buy a link' video Patrick and Andy have put together. It's a good guide to getting started.

Thanks for the tips... What I'm taking from your comments - is at the very least, it may be worth trying and measuring.
Debra,
thanks amazing - that site you pointed me to is actually the first one of its kind I visited. I take it then, it's legit from your recommendation. Are there many other of its type?
thanks again!

I definitely think buying links is worth trying. Just be smart about it as you would any other type of advertising buy and ask lots of questions.
If you search on buying links you'll find the brokers. I have never used any of them since I do that on my own, but I refer people to them who have been happy with their services.
The gentlemen that own that brokerage
are good people, they'll treat you right. But I would shop and compare, different firms specialize in different industries so look around until you're satisfied.

buying link not a bad deal actully if u r buying link from a good pr site. u must consider the amount of traffic the site actually have. this is very fundamental.
buying link gives u boost in ranking, PR and sales. its worth and giving try to buying links is not a bad idea.
But it's all matters is the cost of the links so if u r paying u shud get return.
