They use very old thumbshots, at least on the site I checked (a site I redesigned two years ago shows with its pre-redesign thumbshot).

It must be pretty new and some kind of experiment as it seems that Google has not even assigned it any PR yet.
IMO it is a wasted effort. DMOZ should rather concentrate on reviewing and including the huge backlog of submissions they have rather than playing around with a "thumbshots" type of directory.
No wonder submissions take forever, their too busy answering posts in their forum, adding to their blog and creating apps like this.
