SEORoundtable mentioned a discussion at WMW where people are reporting significant changes in Google. I ran some test searches this morning and it does indeed look like an index update.

Some people are reportedly seeing sandboxed sites coming out but I don't have any details. Have been in meetings this morning.

I've noticed ranking jump from page 8/9/10 to page 1, #6 for a particular keyphrase I've been watching. Nothing on the site has changed in several months. The site was new a month before the last changes (4-5 months total age). So, I'm guessing we got out of the sandbox for this page.

Sorry. I changed the thread title to reflect the current year. Didn't realize we'd had a change in calendars....

On Thursday, I noticed a significant jump - from off the charts to 80-100 - for a number of my keyphrases. Many of these are for newer pages on my site. Very interesting!

Ah... this is what is going on with the site atm (I know that I am or could be looking at different datacentres)

#1 All main menu pages which were at the top of the site: command results are now towards the end.

#2 Supplemental results show cached pages from August 2005 which have already been shown in the results (although there is no cache info)

#3 We're getting pages crawled and indexed which were not being seen before we did a little optimisation on them.

So to summarise, not too good and not too bad either cheers.gif What are others results?

For what it's worth, I've had what I deem to be a reliable report of fluctuating results on same data centers. This appears to be happening across the network. That is, if you see fluctuating results, it could be you're seeing different data centers, and it could be you're seeing the same data center.

This is contrary to past update behavior.

I've been working with a site that has been on page 50 or so for awhile. Waiting for some page title changes, etc. to have an impact on rankings. Early this morning it appeared on page 4 (among 5 million results), then by 11am it vanished (among 3.2 million results), then by 5pm it was back up on page 5 (among the 5 million again). Just checked again (8pm) and now on page 5 of 3.6 million results.

Can anyone shed light on this behavior by Google? Is this a case of Google pointing at different indexes and/or data centers during the course of the day? Are these positive results likely to stick around?

Thanks!

There's no light to be shed.

SEO is like that. Always has been, always will be.
