Ok like a lot of people I am looking to use Ink PFI as a test ground for optimisation to speed up the testing etc. My question is this.

According to the Positiontech blurb, at the end of 12 months, if i do not renew the subscription then my page will be removed from their index is this the case, or do they simply not spider on a regular basis any more after the 12 month period?

Secondly Does using PFI 'flag' the domain and prevent slurp from indexing the rest of the site even if it is found from other links? Most of my client sites end up in ink as they all have plenty of linkable material on them.

I do not want to put myself in a position where for the sake of speeding up the process I am doing damage in the long term.

Any help appreciated :D

If after 12 months you do not renew a PFI subscription for any given URL, yes it will be removed but if it was already in the index before subscribing via PFI, it will remain and just will not be crawled as frequently.

By subscribing URLs to PFI, it DOES NOT stop Inktomi form performing a regular crawl on the site. From what I understand, the regular Inktomi crawler and the Inktomi PFI crawler are different.

In my couple of years of using Inktomi PFI, I have never seen any damage done to a site in regards to regular crawling. Hope that helps.

From what MakeMeTop has said in the past, the page will generally get back into the regular index. You just may have a waiting period.

I've let mine lapse and they're back in.

As Jill said. I rarely renew - if the site hasn't been naturally crawled after a year you are doing something pretty wrong!
