Welcome Pinonsale!

If I understand your question correctly, the answer is an unqualified It Depends. There are differing views on whether a Yahoo! directory listing is worth $299 per year anymore or not.

Note the difference there... The $299 is a submission/review fee to be included in the Yahoo! Directory, not Yahoo! search. The fee does not guarantee any position within the directory either. In fact, last I checked it doesn't even guarantee inclusion at all.

Yahoo! Search results are currently supplied Google. So whatever listing you have in Google is what you'll see in Yahoo! when you perform a search. (Disclaimer: There have been numerous reports that some are seeing what look to be Inktomi results as Yahoo! prepares to start running their own spider to collect information.)

One has very little to do with the other. As of this moment, you won't see Directory listings when you Search on Yahoo! In order to see a Yahoo! Directory listing you need to drill down through their directory categories.

The only advantage (IMO) of having a listing in Yahoo! Directory, assuming you choose to pay them and submit your site for review, is that a listing in a good category there can aid in establishing Link Popularity or PageRank. Very few people seem to use the Directory to find sites these days.

Some will tell you that's worth the fee. Others will say it's not anymore. Others will say it's not worth it right now, but might be again one day depending upon what happens when Yahoo! starts running their own spider and search. That is rumored to be slated for the sometime in the first quarter of 2004.

That's also the approach I am taking for the moment, wait and see since it is a fairly sizable expense when compared to other directory submissions. Other will surely disagree though.

Well, I'm seeing lots of Inktomi results at Yahoo.com today - which is nice. Plus Yahoo.co.uk are showing directory results as the top three for some searches. There also seems to be a fairly sizeable boost for pages that in both the web results and also in the directory. If this keeps up, I would say that the directory is still worth it.

A listing in Yahoo's directory won't directly effect your ranking there. It will simply get you into the Yahoo directory.

It may or may not be worth the $299 per year for this honor. Please read the other posts we've made on this topic in the past (you can do a search for Yahoo Submission).

Good luck!

Jill
