Hello all,

So I'm sitting there yesterday doing some pretty niche link exchange research. We got about 750 niche pages I'm about go get links for, as soon as we roll out the new version of the site. I have a good list of supposed SEO friendly directories, so they're on the block to do as well. But there's always the need to get relevant sites to link as well.

Yesterday I spent about 8 hours doing research in this fashion and here are my findings..

"Suggest link" +"your keyword(s)“ = somewhat relevant pages
"Suggest a link" +"your keyword(s)" = pretty much the same results as above
"Suggest site" + "your keyword(s)“ = worthless for the most part
"Suggest a site" + "your keyword(s)" = same as above
"Suggest URL" +"your keyword(s)” = totally worthless
"Suggest a URL" +"your keyword(s)" = ditto
"Suggest an URL" +"your keyword(s)“ = ditto
"Add link" +"your keyword(s)" = dmoz directories galore. already in dmoz
"Add a link" +"your keyword(s)“ = see above
"Add site" +"your keyword(s)" = somewhat relevant pages
"Add a site" +"your keyword(s)" = ditto
"Add URL" +"your keyword(s)" = somewhat relevant pages
"Add a URL" +"your keyword(s)" = ditto
"Add an URL" +"your keyword(s)" = again ditto
"Submit link" +"your keyword(s)" = mixed bag
"Submit a link" +"your keyword(s)" = ditto
"Submit site" +"your keyword(s)" = worthless
"Submit a site" +"your keyword(s)" = worthless
"Submit URL" +"your keyword(s)” = super worthless
"Submit a URL" +"your keyword(s)" = super worthless
"Submit an URL" +"your keyword(s)" = super worthless
"favorite links" +"your keyword(s)" = get a bunch of idiot non-relevant sites
"recommended links" +"your keyword(s)" = mixed bag
"cool sites" +"your keyword(s)" = totally and utterly worthless
"cool places" +"your keyword(s)" = even more worthless
reciprocal +"your keyword(s)" = mixed bag, but usually crap
directory +"your keyword(s)" = totally worthless
directorys +"your keyword(s)" = super worthless
directories +"your keyword(s)" = mixed bag, but usually crap
exchange +"your keyword(s)" = worthless
resources +"your keyword(s)" = mixed bag, usually crap
links +"your keyword(s)" = VERY GOOD
"your location" +"add url" = good for local linking
"your location" +"suggest a site" = no good for local linking
"your location" +"submit site" = decent for local linking
"your location" +links = very good for local linking
"your location" +"reciprocal links" = no good
"your location" +directory = mixed bag

Seems like G has been doing some work behind the scenes for the last couple of weeks in anticipation of Big Daddy rolling out, so maybe the results are somewhat skewed from that. But seriously, I did a search for "Suggest link" +"Mens Apparel“ and got results for lingerie shops and a buttload of cloaked pages. All hail the king of search? hmm.gif goodjob.gif

Glad to be of service. I do know of an additional array of search query strings where it gets much more granular when G indexes the sites. Its along the lines of;

"addurl.html"+"keyword"
"add_url.html"+"keyword"
"addme.html"+"keyword"
"addlink.html"+"keyword"

its a really long list, need to find that again. Basically just keep changing the extension from htm, php, asp, shtml, phtml, etc...

Anyone else noticing that G has been returning crap results or am I alone on this one?

This is typical of an intraupdate search situation. When I need specific information I cannot find on Google, I look for it on Yahoo! and MSN. Usually, one or both of them can make up for the failure on Google's part to perform. That's why it's good to have more than one dominant search engine, in my opinion (and I feel we have two in Yahoo! and Google).

absolutely agreed. MSN has been churning out some decent results, and Y! is so-so. Not even gonna bother using Arelis or anything like that...
