Please see this script:
[removed script link]

I'm not using this script but just the thought that online directories will be banned...

Am I understanding this correctly?

If you have an online directory with duplicate content, then you are banned from Google???

Just wondering cause I'm building an online directory where vendors have their own page in our site...

So their link on our site would be:
mydomain.com/vendor/vendor_id_number or
mydomain.com/vendor/vendor_name

Vendors can subscribe to more than one category.
However vendors only have one page, but are linked to by many categories...

Is this the same thing?
Do I need to keep my directory listing in each category rotating, so they are never in the same directory rank twice?

If this is the case my whole business model is already scarry before I get off the ground...

You won't get banned from Google for duplicate content. That just doesn't happen.

What can and does happen is that Google will choose which version of the duplicate content to show in their SERPs and filter out all of the rest.

As far as your business model goes, general directories have been increasingly going the way of the dodo bird of late. If I were going to start a directory these days I would concentrate on making the best industry or niche specific directory, rather than try to incorporate too much.

I agree with Randy. Most directories only provide some link popularity as opposed to some real useful traffic. SEs are beginning to recognise that and may not attach as much importance as before to directory links.....killing the sole inspiration of listing with new or smaller directories....especially those that are generic and dont provide quality traffic for most categories.
