Say goodbye to Zeal...

"After trying to put the deserved resources behind Zeal, we have made the conscious decision to shut down Zeal.com. On March 28, 2006 Zeal will no longer be available. We are not selling Zeal.com and have no future plans for it at this time."

I spent time trying to become a Zealot and when I passed those stages, this is the news I receive?

my condolences, that site was really huge and had a great cause and I am personally very sad to hear of having to let such a great thing go, even if temporarily.

Any business failure is a demoralising disaster for those involved so I'm sorry to hear that.... but in this case, not surprised.

I wonder if all the non-profit sites will also mysteriously disappear from the Looksmart database?

Zeal survived far longer than I expected it to. I've never had much respect for the Looksmart business plan. How they managed to stay in business this long amazes me, but then, they have lasted this long so I guess that deserves some respect after all.

Zeal was actually one of the better directories (for non-commercial sites) for a very long time. But the contributing process made it a real pain.

Being one of the Original Zealots prior to the Looksmart purchase I hate to see it go, but it’s a tough business in a very competitive environment. That’s the second directory I devoted a lot of time to that’s gone under; Go.com being the first.
