Sort By Author Within A Thread?

In a very long thread and one which includes some very long messages it is difficult if not impossible to go backwards and fine the information you are looking for. In these situations it would be a big help if you could sort the thread by author and read the string of responses by a single person.
Is there anyway to do this? Or would it be a big deal to add this facility?
What would also be helpful would be if people who include a quotation from a previous message would always include the author they are quoting. Frequently you will see a snippet of a quote and you have no idea who wrote the original.

I've also has a request to have the posts numbered (ie, 5 out of 1287) and I'm looking into that one too.

Geez. If you do that my content will never surviveor subtracting an author from a post would be useful as well!
On a more serious note that would in fact be useful in some threads, but I would guess it might be more difficult to do.
What I am asking for exists in almost all message archives. So hopefully it wouldn't be a big leap to do it in a forum thread.

Thanks, Qwerty.I find it's pretty easy to go to a member's profile page and click "Find all posts by this member." That gives me their posts, the most recent at the top.
That does work pretty good. The only problem would be if the author was active simultaneously in a bunch of threads. But I just used it for the person and thread I was interested in and it works very well.
