Website Relating To Keywords

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before, (I'm sure it has) but the content of my website is 2/3 related to 2 popular kewords. Would I get higher rankings in Google if the website was exclusively dedicated to the 2 keywords?

You can not really tell looking at the basic info you give us. Ranking is something that is based upon tens of different (sometimes unknown) items. Your content is VERY important but not the only thing that will give you good ranking.

Unless the two keywords that you are focusing on are not really competitive, it might work. Otherwise, you are wasting your time trying to get rankings in Google for just two keywords.

Looking at your other reply where you mentioned that you are now at rank 100-200 it looks like you indeed have to dig into the keywords as David suggests.

Will taking the information off of your site that is not related to the keywords that most of the site is relevant to going to help?
No! It won't make any difference.
If you have 5 pages on your site about cars, and 2 pages on your site about birds. The pages about birds are not going to have any kind of adverse affect with your ranking for the pages about cars...
Why would you want to limit your keywords to just two?
There have to be more annotations of these keywords that people are seaching for. And, there must be more than 2 pages on your site. Plus each page can be optimized for many keyword phrases.
Expand your keyword base through exploration and discovery research. Find out what terms people are using to find what you offer, and, optimize for these.

The 2 keywords are very popular and there seem to be a lot of competition over them, however, I have a big block of text on my index page that helps with other keywords. Under the log files with my host, I can see the vast array of different keywords people use to find my site. However, I’ve noticed with many of these other keywords, a significant drop in ranking too, over the last 3 – 4 weeks.
I suppose I’ll just have to ride the Google storm and hope my ranking gets better long term.

The thing to remember is that the engines rank Pages, not entire sites.
Sure there is something to be gained from having a site that is well positioned with a ton of link popularity to spread around via internal linkage. But at the end of the day it's still the pages that are going to be ranked for XYZphrase, not the entire site.

Absolutely not. It would be a huge waste of a site to focus the whole thing on just a couple of phrases. At best, only 2 pages of the site can show for any keyword phrase.

Not at all. Why would you want your entire site to target only 2 search phrases?
There is something to be said for site-wide focus, but as Randy stated (and correctly so): search engines rank individual pages.
