If there's someplace in the help where the HR1 (to the left of a posting, right under the avatar), and the red bar that sometimes appears, are explained, I've been too befuddled to find them

Its just a member level bar based on how many posts you have. It changes to HR2 when you get to 10 and then HR3 when you get to the next number and so on and so forth.

So then the red bar is just a graphic representation of the count?
And why is it green in some cases?

It's probably just the name of the image,with 'HR' meaning 'Horizontal Rule'.I have a couple of pieces of software that can turn numbers into charts,and they have similar graphics. HR2 is a little longer than HR1,etc.
With all of the 'smartasses' on this list ... myself included ... I'm sure that someone can come up with better,or at least less meaningless, names.

HR=High Rankings. It's a play on PR=Page Rank like you see on the Google toolbar.
Yes, the red bar is just a reflection of the HR number.
