...targeting the same (competitive) phrase that we have dropped for....nerve...

Sounds interesting. Infact one of my client was also running an adword before achieving top 10 ranking for a competitive keyword. I think he will also receive a request to upgrade his account after getting BURRIED by Google.

i have been reading all the posts and feeling quietly confident that my site was holding its own. Beginning of the week we were still in the top 10 for our main keyword phrase "business for sale uk" this carried on until this morning and what a surprise my homepage has vanished!

I have obviously jinxed myself with all my positive thoughts :bash: I am now going to step away from the computer and hope that everything will level out a bit. Some of the examples of dodgy rankings are very amusing, we advertise businesses for sale and somehow a website giving information on horses and equine sports has jumped above us from nowhere!!

Nimlet,
I only started noticing changes in our sites rankings (& mostly just the very recent sites) since the beginning of this week also - I am lying low, keeping a beady eye on them & hoping things return to at least a semi-normal state towards end of next or the week after next. :bash: before I start fiddling with my SEO.

Strangely enough - the terms that we have been "burried" for are extremely competitive (& only the index pages...) & the sites that have "replaced" us are mostly directory or portal sites with a huge amount of outgoing links, and only a few "relevant" sites in between, that are highly spammed....go figure..

For those of you who are using digital point to check your rankings:

9999 does not necessarilly mean that you´re of the chart. Often 9999 just means it didn't get a reply from the Google server. When you check your rank doing a real search,. it is right there where you expect it.

it is most certainly a bit crazy at the moment, I agree sit back and wait before you start making any changes - trouble is the temptation for a knee jerk reation is always high when the site you have been slaving away on drops! Best plan of action hit the pub and forget/stick head in large bucket of sand until monday!

Have a good weekend guys and gals! :bash:

Hello,
New type of message from google. When we type "seo" initially it was dominated by commercial sites like topseo.com now they are gone disappeared. Now no.1 ranking is google webmaster warnings on SEOs.
www.google.com/webmasters/seo.html
So they definetely want to send a message to everyone. Dont use SEOs first read our guidelines on selecting an SEO.
oops this definetely looks manually manipulating the SERPs to tell people what they are not supposed to do. Got to see how long google sets the rules,
VIJAY.

I agree - especially if your director is constantly peering over you shoulder or at SERP's & then expecting a "how, where & when" answer! :bash:

Hello,

Yep I know that. Infact we know google only displays 1000 results. That figure 9999 is real fun to to describe our ranking, :bash: That is why I do that,
VIJAY.

That update hasn't finished yet, so anything you find to be a solution will be a solution for like 12 hours or 1 day,... All you can do is monitor and wait. Really,. like many before me said: Just wait,.. probably most of your sites will come back where they were originally.

Mr Peter,

Yes! I trust your words. That is the only option we have.

Let Google continue their updation. Like NIMLET i have no plan to go BAR and waste my time!!. Meanwhile i am planning to put more time on my other expertises. Like Mobile Applications and Messaging Services....

FWIW, I monitor some Spanish, Italian and French SEO forums, only the Spanish one has touched on the update, and that only as a passing comment.
If there is a deliberate filter/algo change, it should propagate to these languages, so we should start hearing them scream soon.

Personally, looking at some results from "Pages from Ireland", I can't believe this is anything but a glitch.

I have a nice boss who understands that certain things in the world of search engines can go a bit topsy turvy! For now I am going to research holidays for my next site....I can imagine myself in sunny Tenerife or somewhere similar!
