Welcome geskim0! bye1.gif

The link would count as a backwards link to the URL in question:

www.xxxxxx.com/ref/sales.php?ref=yyy

geskim0, to have affiliate links count as links to your main domain, you'll need to do a 301 redirect after you record the affiliate information.

Like this:
1. User requests www.xxxxxx.com/ref/sales.php?ref=yyy
2. Your code records "yyy" as the affiliate ID (in whatever manner you do that).
3. Your code issues a 301 redirect to www.xxxxxx.com

If the link is embedded on the affiliate site in this form, in a typical static HTML link, it doesn't need to be redirected to count.

It may or may not be counted, depending on whether the search engine filters that particular affiliate program.

If the inbound link is being discounted, then redirection won't help you.

Right, but it will only count towards the link pop of that specific URL. Which isn't going to do any good.

Is the page where that link is on, cached by Google? If so, then they know about it.

I definitely counts as a link to your site, but not a link to your homepage. It's counts as a link to www.xxxxxx.com/ref/sales.php?ref=yyy, specifically, which is probably not what you want.

yes. i do not what that. I would want to make it point to my homepage. Is any way of doing it . Does the 301 match this . I underline that after the user clicks there a cookie is set and then the user is redirected to the homepage.

Thanks

If site A links to site B/page.html and site B wants link popularity for B/otherpage.html, site B has to live with the fact that it cannot do anything with redirection to guarantee a transfer of popularity.

This "fix" is thrown out so frequently and so casually today that people don't stop to consider that Google is still being widely criticized for not dealing with the issue.

It should not be proposed as a working solution because it will only work with the search engines that follow the path.

When they're all on board and doing the same thing, everyone can relax and we won't see me making cautionary followups.

Yep, my instructions make the link count as a link to your homepage as much as possible (since not all engines will catch it right away or at all). It's the best method I've ever seen with affiliate links.

I'll agree with you on that, Shane.
