Time to renew my local Yellow Pages ad...

The lady went through her spiel and I reworded my ads, blah blah blah.

Then she told me how important it was to be on the Internet today and I needed a featured listing in the online yellow pages. :hmnn: I was interested. Asked her a few more questions.

Well, she told me for a featured listing, they would guarantee 30 clicks a month. And that was really good because even though you might be in the search engines like Google, if no one clicks on your link, they will drop you. That's how they rank things there. ;)

I declined a featured listing on their PR0 page..

so you didn't 'let your fingers do the walking' with your advertising spend then Scottie.

I dont know about the rest of you guys, but my customers have slashed their YP spend year on year going for offline leaflet promotion of their online presence (urged to by me mainly lol) this has to be a far better way than spending £20,000 on yellow pages advertising year on year.

Any one else find this? maybe its because i tend to work mainly within tight geo marketing areas.

She's right. Your AdWords ad is dropped if it does not meet the required CTR. :hmm:

Maybe that is what she meant, but she didn't know it. I asked her a few more questions about search engines and the answers were a hoot.

maybe we should start a thread on the 'fishermans tales' regarding the web during a sales pitch.

one of my customers was contacted by a 'keyword' company selling keywords that will 'take customers directly to your website if they type the word into their browser' (no mention of a plug in) and when my customer replied, but we are on the front page of google and a few other search engines they were told ' I know, we own Google'. so apparently, google is owned by some blokeworking out of a lock up garage In Cardiff, < you heard it here first >

Speaking of yellow page ads, apparently it can make a big difference when your ad is designed by an expert yellow page ad designer. I just happen to have a client who does this, if anyone is interested let me know.

(Or you can probably just type in Yellow Page ad design in Google to find him...:forkoff:)

You are spot on there Jill, too many companies lead with their name rather than the offer, , you MUST grab the attention with a bold headline, apparently if you use the category header as a header to your advert you will double your response.

:yuk: shut up OWG your as boring as hell lol (we had a small newspaper many moons ago so i have a lot of advert training stuff, it comes second nature).

Look on it from the bright side guys, as most of you are over the pond you will never get stuck with me at a party :whip:

Then again Brian r i am less than 75 miles away from you :forkoff:

Well, funny I started a topic on this and then ran across an article at SEW about the value of online yellow pages services. I haven't read it all the way through yet, but it's focused on local search and how the online yellow page directories may play into that.
