Hi guys

I came across the site [removed] which says that they are offering links on their homepage starting at $20. I see that this page has a PR6.

My question is :

1) Can Google Pagerank pass through such a graphical image?

2) I know that Pr can pass through normal pictures, but this image on the site seems different.

3) If Pr cannot pass through these images, then is $20 expensive instead of cheap?

4) I have a pixel ad already on Bradfallon.com--but I don't know whether Pr is passing --will it be the same for this site? The sites do not seem the same, but it is a similar concept.

Thanks
Craig

Google PageRank is always passed with image links no matter how large or small the image is. Know that PageRank and Page Reputation are two seperate thing. You won't have the advantage of building page reputation with pixel ads as much as with a regular keyword rich text link beacuse you will be using alt text with pixel ads.

Welcome webcandle! bye1.gif

Buying links for PageRank purposes is probably not really in your best interests.

You may want to look more closely at whether that link will actually entice people to visit your site. Is it on a page that people from your target audience might be reading? Is the image a good call to action letting people know what they'll get when they click to your site?

Those are the important things to look at when buying any link. If the page happens to have a high PR, that's a nice bonus, because there's a good chance it gets a lot of visitors since it's apparently a fairly popular page. If you can get some of those visitors to your site, it might be worth your investment in the link.

If it's a direct link, it will pass link popularity.

If it's a "jump link" or "tracking link" odds are that it won't pass link pop.

I just looked at the site you posted and those are direct links, so in theory, they should pass link pop.

Remember the more links are on the page, the less "weight" each link receives. With every new link that's added to that image, the less useful yours is.

The other thing is that the pixel links are an image map- for a while it seemed that alt attributes for image maps weren't counted. In other words the link is followed but you don't get credit for the alt text as if it were anchor text. I haven't tested that in more than a year, so I don't know if it's still the case or not.

All in all, you could probably find a better way to spend your money.

If it's one of those pixels-for-sale pages, then your link is going to be one of hundreds, perhaps thousands of links. As such, the link's effect is going to be minimal.

[Scottie added her stuff about the number of links while I was writing mine. I am NOT a copycat]
