In order to get a lot of publicity here is what you have to do:
1. Have an interesting idea
2. Go to various forums and submit posts
3. Go to article submit sites like EzineArticles.com and submit articles on topics similar to your idea
4. make a blog and submit it to various blog submission sites
5. Send your url to your friends and ask them to pass it on to their contacts (word of mouth)
6. Get a lot of incomming urls from other cool sites

OneBillionViews - Instead of just posting a list of things to do we'd all rather see details of how to do them successfully. I hate to bust your bubble but a lot of those things won't do a damn thing unless you put effort into it.
It takes a hell of a lot more than just submitting your blog.

I have a blog, and so far no one has every commented on it - or doubt if anyone other than myself has ever seen it.
Why not? I have not announced anywhere else it other than on my own web site.
Unless I continuously advertise it in multiple areas and make a compelling reason for people to visit it (and link to it), it will remain but an unknown assemblage of words in a forest of sentences.[I]

yep, sad to realize to myself, is a full time job in itself, separate from the full time job one is already doing just creating and providing the product/service
i find that what helps me to evaluate correctly what i need to do is reversing that second one and making a compelling reason first and foremost, for people to even just visit and have a looksee at whatcha got here - is 1, and it is full time job in itself, just thinking it thru, never mind the coding with all the details, once it took me 8 hours just to make a decent bullet, and only one bullet at that, and i was exhausted and felt even guilty for having 'wasted' eitght hours making A one bullet
then the advertising, i like to define it to myself as that - if people dont even know i exist with my website (or physical retail store) offering them these things they may not even know they need or just wanna then they cant find my website (or store) even if they wanted to. they will not even know to look for it, perhaps, unless they are speciallist/hobbyist and even then they may not know where and how to look, so i have to help them along in all of those ways - just to even know that i exist!
then once they do come, if they do at all, cause then you've got the people who want to and intend to and never get around to it with too many other things to do, so if they do come, i really appreciate that alone
and then it is my chance to help them see all the reasons why while they are definitely 'just visiting' and being frugal and not wasting any of their hard earned money on frivolous things that then may later regret finding they did not realy need them after all, and even blame you for having 'suckered them' into it, cause as a customer/visitor that is how i see myself, so that is how i see my customer/visitor and fully respect and appreciate that.
short of it, i allways thought just having a good product and an honest way of describing it so that the customer can see how badly they need/want it indeed and also are not changing their mind after they buy, this giving me bad carma, if they change their mind later, and i thought advertising, marketing, sales was simply letting people know i exist and giving them convenient ways to find me,
but now i am thinking this advertising is a full time job separate and in addition to having a good product/service and describing it honestly and precisely to the customer.
hopefully i will soon clarify these ideas better to myself, so that i can convey them better and faster then i have done here in this post.

Does my post at any time say that what I suggested wasn't a continuous effort?

(this is not me beeing cheeky at yu, just further over doing that overly too serious need to lightne up and relax and maybe put on my lists of essentials: hire people with sense of humor, if you cant find a single one like that into already required job funcions, hire a good clown.)
