Hi
I am being cautious with all these free directories...One could land up in a Bad neighbourhood and get penalised...I think that some of them have to be heavily scrutinised...any ideas?
TIA biggrin.gif

Any ideas on what?

It's doubtful that you would be penalized for being listed in directories, as your competitors could simply put you there.

More likely, those directories that the engines might not like would simply not count towards link popularity.

We have a number of threads regarding the differences between  link farms and directories[/hr], if that's what you're wondering about.

I'm normally won't reciprocal link to directories for this that reason though. That goes with any site, but directories are being scrutinized. It's best not to link to them unless they have been around a while and show themselves to be reputable.

You won't penalized for being in the directory though, so feel free to submit. If it's considered in a "Bad neighborhood" it just won't add any link value.

Anything that is out of your control cannot hurt you. As ADACProgramming mentions, be careful with the reciprocal links though.

Getting listed on directories should enhance your presence on the web and increase chances of getting found, no matter if such directories aren't popular. Don't worry too much about getting penalized. You are not doing link farming, your site is simply listed there.
