What Could Be Better?
Posted 20 November 2005 - 06:56 PM
I have a site with hundreds of BL, all of then with the same anchor text, which is the main KW.
If I want to change the main keyword, what could be better?, start building new BL with the new KW in the anchor text, or start over with a new site.
I mean, I'm not sure if these BL we already have will affect the ranking with the new keyword.

Personally, I have no clue.
How did you get hundreds of backlinks all with the same keyword phrase to begin with? To me you're already starting off on suspicious grounds.

Oh, no, no.
I have achieved that with a very hard work. Every time I have accepted a link exchange, I have been carefully to the anchor text. Of course, there is several links that only mention the domain name, and also some images, but about 80-90% of anchor text on these links is the main keyword.
The website is not too old, only 10 months, and I'm not sure if these anchor text, once I start SEO with new KW, will affect the ranking.

Certainly no reason to start over with a whole new website, that just doesn't make sense.

Cars --> home page
Honda --> home page
Sorry, I don't want to make any mistake

I would hope that you didn't optimize your home page for only one phrase (on the page content).
So simply choose one of the other phrases you optimized for and have people use that in their anchor text links.
If your site is about cars, it doesn't make sense to have them use Honda in the anchor text and point them to the home page. Have them point directly to your Honda page instead.
If all your links were saying "cars" you might want them to also say "autos.'
But these are horrible examples because you should never be optimizing for one-word keywords anyway. So of course subsitute your phrase for the one-word being used in these awful examples!
You don't need to be sorry, and you don't need to worry about making a mistake.
Nothing is written in stone with SEO. Even if you just got 40 links saying Honda which pointed to your home page, it's no big deal. Just get others saying what you want them to say.
No big deal. No problem. Won't permanently hurt anything.

No, I have optimized the mainpage with more than one KW. As a matter of fact, cars and honda was an example, jut the first thing coming to my mind.
Acutally, the first KW was Custom T-shirts, and the new one is Promotional Products. The site is actionprintinginc(dot)com

Do not have all of your backlinks pointing to the same page.
If you are getting links from content related websites, surely
some of your links should point to internal pages that are
more narrowly releated to visitors' subjects of interest.
Also, there is considerable informed opinion that you should
vary the anchor text keywords.
