I am designing all my new websites with CSS/XHTML, Simply because of its benefits in usability and maintenance. With regards to its impact in search engines and rankings, i would like to know if any one has witnessed improvement in rankings after switching to CSS?

If I remember it right, there had been other threads in this forum's section concerning this topic.
And from experience and as you mentioned, CSS Positioning does a lot for maintenance and user-friendliness but it just doesn't do much (if there is any) for rankings.

Search engines look for content and links, not presentation.
CSS is all about presentation - no impact on rankings.
