Hi

After reading dozens of pages in this place i still unsure about how to get backward links.
I have a private non commercial site and i want to start an on-line business who would function in a very limited field with different new site.
The other competitors in this field won't exchange links or donate them…
Problem !

Now to me its clear that this Google PR system wont last for long because its has no true logical benefit to respond from to the searchers terms.
You can have the most relevant answer to one's term of search on one of your pages, but if no one link to your site, Google won’t show it.

When it comes to business , the situation is that Google guide lines left behind …-money talks – and this is no guide line, it's just reality.
Still I won't do spamy things because the worried and attention consuming about it in the short terms, and danger from being damaged by disappearing from the SERP on the long term is not worth it. (in this kind of business anyway)
So what about finding backwards links…?

On one of the earlier posts I followed a link to company who trades with links and since it’s the first time I've seen it I thought: Hu-haaa that’s what every body doing to get to PR6-8 , they just pay for them !
It's stinks and un-honest thing to do, and the guys in google must have predicting that linking that all this industry will appear all around…- would that concern "ethical un biased results?"
So I will have to find links -and after submit to all relevance directory…
Then what else ?
Looking for links from less relevant pages from out of the industry ?
buy links from well ranked sites? – who sell them \how safe is it ?

I've send about 30 suggestion to other webmasters in israel with many kinds of approach …just to see what's the best one. In all of them I've mention the content of their site and use their name (if it was there) in the message headline.
Only 3-4 off them with PR 2-3 agree to link back, and Goole Toolbar search for backward links don’t even show them…
(and my site has-really quality content :tooth: )
So before going to start new site and new business I really want your advice about getting quality links.
Whats the secret ? :lmao:

Thanks

Directories work

also so people are hesitant to trade until you have some page value

usually your competitors will not link to your site
dowload google toolbar with adavanced features
find out who links to your competitors
and try to get links from them

most any system in the world is biased toward what it knows. for google to be heavily biased to your brand new site would undermine its entire system

Hi Awall
- thank you.

So you wont get PR higher then 5-4 because no body links to you ...and you wont get link to you until you have it :D
sounds like catch22 .

I know about the directories option - but in my regional the only real directory value with SEO is DMOZ...the other directories rank is mostly below PR3.
The other sites backlinks - i know this option..and in most cases its not so relevant ones...
So i'm stuck again

any more ideas?

How good are your persuasion skills? :)

If you find someone with a site in a cat that's similiar to yours and you know over time with a quality site and more links you'll build PR, you could convince them to believe in your site as you do to get links. I know it sounds a little Pollyanna, but there are some folks who'll link regardless of pagerank based on the quality of your site.

A good site is a good site; eventyally it will build a dencent rank, IMO :D

Also I think you are forgetting something.

Google sorts things twice. (well, it's more complicated, but this is close)

First, it chooses the sites that match the users query. Relevance.
Second, it sorts those results by PR. Popularity.

If your site is the most relevant for the search, then it will be number one. Even if it's PR is 0.

Only if there are other sites that are also relevant will your PR matter.

Of course, that's the simplified version. In practice you need some backlinks. but you are wrong if you think PR 4 or above are the only ones that matter. Even a several PR1 or 2 links will help. Just because they don't show up on the links: search doesn't mean they are not being counted.

And remember this - if you have truly quality information, pretty soon sites will be coming to YOU for links :D

Get linked by as many on topic sites as you can - ignore the PR for now.
Keep your quality high and current. The rest will follow.

Yep ...this what i do right now.
But i think that the new site can have less "quality" content then a private one...
for example
If you selling swimsuits ...what and how much can you write about them ?
my concern a bout quality content is only for the commercail site, the private one will be linked to eventualy - i know.

-thanks folks

:P
