First: I read the other threads debating the value of paid text links. Also, I do not plan on purchasing text links, as it does not fit my business model.

I have a different, but related question.

I recently read an author's advice that recommended purchasing a text link to get your site listed quickly in Google's SERPs.

*I understand how that works, but if a new sites are sandboxed, would it be prudent to wait until results appear in the SERPs before shelling out for text links?

*Also, I read in some posts that some sites seem to "escape the sandbox" for awhile, but get "put back in" later. If this is true, then are buying text links solely for SEO purpose a financial risk?

Is this author's advice correct, based on outdated information, or incorrect altogether?

Thanks for the assist,

I think it all comes by to why you're purchasing a link from another site.

Given the reasoning you put forward from the unknown author, that's simply outdated information. It's not going to get you out of the aging delay.

On the other hand, I never, ever, ever purchase any links for the whole PR/Link Pop reason that seems to be assumed. My view on paid links is exactly the same why I approach Adwords, Overture or any other paid advertisement.

If I can't make a case that my income from those advertisements will more than pay for them, I don't take them out in the first place. I definitely don't continue paying for ill-performing links/ads month after month!

That sounds counterintuitive to me. Buy (or just get) them while you're waiting. You may wait forever otherwise!
