Thanks, Phil. smile.gif

The blog is fairly new, about 3 weeks old. I had submitted it to a few blog-related directories, which are the links that I find in G when searching on "family webwatch". I was excited yet surprised to see those links show up so soon, but confused with the link: results.

This pertains to my web design by... links.

I have read through most of the posts on this topic however, I have not found any that explain wether a link is more viewable to google as a web design by http://link or web design by (link). Does it matter?

Welcome MBTMD! bye1.gif

Google views all links.

What they show has nothing to do with what they view as noted in this thread:

Try "yourdomain.+com" and you may see more links that you usually see with the link command.

Welcome kacper ! hi.gif

As we've been saying here for some time, you can pretty much disregard what the Google link: command shows. Even they admit that it will only show a selection of links pointing at your site, though nobody knows quite what criteria they use in determining what to show you and what doesn't get shown.

The bottom line is that they know about far more links to your site than they will tell you about. I use Yahoo! to check my backlinks because it seems to be the most reliable at the moment.

You can be pretty sure that any links Yahoo knows about, Google also knows about. Even if they won't tell you that they do with their link: command. If you want to be 100% sure pull up those pages linking to you in Google's cache. As long as the page, and the link pointing to your site, appears in Google's cache you can rest assured that they know about it.

Welcome to HR, kacper hi.gif
There are other ways to find out which links Google is aware of. For example: polpott.com -site:www.polpott.com shows pages containing your domain name (most of which are probably links) outside of your domain itself.

I haven't seen this addressed in other posts, if has been please redirect me so I don't waste anyone's time.

I am also new here and although I have read the newbie section I don't know all of the protocols here. If I do something wrong please let me know so I can correct it.

It appears that Google is not including links in their "backward links" from websites that they include in their database. For example, when I do a search on Google for “tmi salt pure” (my new client's site, so SEO's please don't contact them or send them solicitation emails) it shows results including sites that have links to my client’s site including:

<edited links - not needed>
etc.

However, when I check for links to my client’s site on Google “link:http://www.domain.com” it shows six links but does not include any of the sites that have links that showed up when I did a search for “tsi salt pure”.

My concern is there are great links to my client’s site (that have been there for years) that are not being “counted” by Google which lowers the pagerank, which lowers my client’s ranking. I don’t believe that pagerank is the “be all and end all” but it does influence rankings.

My question is, what can I do to get these valuable links included in my Google link list. In addition, I have been snubbed by website owners who say that there are not enough links to my client’s site for them to add a link from their site.

You don't need to do anything to get any additional links included in the Google link: display. Google purposely doesn't show all the links they know about. Do a forum search or look in the Link Building discussions; we've got plenty of threads on this very topic.

Just because a link doesn't show in Google, that doesn't mean it "isn't counted".

Webmasters who refuse to link to your site simply on the basis of it not having enough inbound links according to Google's link: command are -- shall we say? -- "shortsighted" and not very aware. I lump them in the same group who won't link to a site that shows a PR of less than 4.

My site went live 4 weeks ago. I was just spidered and cached last nite. When I put info:www.widgets.com into the google bar, no links show except to three forums of which this is one.

I have 36 bonafide backlinks most with a PR of 4 or better. My PR is 0/10. I am a brand new site probably in the sandbox.

Is this all normal?

THX.

The correct command for linking data in Google would be link:www.widgets.com

Although, if you want to check your backlinks, best use msn link:domain.com or yahoo linkdomain:domain.com , as they will show you more data.

And yes, even using the correct command this is completely normal. You probably won't see any links at all when you use the link: command on Google without any spaces. But that's the norm for a new site.

If I ask google to provide back links to my site:
link:t-shirtsusa.com/ I get no results
If I search for the phrase "t-shirtsUSA.com" I get 27 pages with the phrase that link to my site.
One of those pages is my own site and contains the phrase
"Deep discounted T-shirt screen printing"
If I search for that phrase on google it returns no results.

It seems to be that although google has indexed the pages it is not returning correct results.

Does someone have an explanation

Welcome PromotionalProducts ! hi.gif

The link: command at Google has been broken for a long time now, as you'll discover when you read through some of the older posts on the forums. They show random backlinks with no rhyme or reason.

I use Yahoo! instead for that. (ie linkdomain:yoursite.com to get all links pointing to your site.)

Hi Everyone,

A simple question, hopefully with a simple answer.

I have many links to my site but Google does not register these links at all - Why is this and is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks very much.
Dave
