It will take some time for the directory to build up some PR as far as Google goes but it should eventually be as beneficial as GoGuides.org was as Jill pointed out. I wouldn't pay to get listed there but because you can add sites for free as an editor, it is worth the while IMO. Only takes a few minutes to submit a site and it looks like they are going to be the survivor of the battle.
... but is the directory of any significance to the web in general?

they randomly introduce free listings for four hours in every twenty-four.
im hoping its a good directory in its early days and i consider it worthy of a post.

Go Gudes issued a press release today. Of specific interest is a excerpt regarding GoGuides offer late last year to sell the directory:
The release also discusses the current ownership situation and the release of yet another directory - Web-Beacon.com.
In December, GoGuides was put on the market. We were approached by numerous individuals and corporations showing great interest in buying the directory. We were astonished by the offers that poured in and the amounts that some search engines were willing to pay for this project. In the end, it was Mr. Bargerís sole decision to pull GoGuides back off the market. This decision was due largely to the outcry from the volunteers in the community and his passion for this project. Because of those factors, we withdraw all offers to sell. It has always been our utmost desire at GoGuides to see this community continue to grow and prosper. Keeping the same owner at the helm will ensure this community stays on track.

I have applied to both to become an editor with subject-matter expertise, and neither has ever had enough infrastructure to get any response back to me.
I have repeatedly submitted my site to both and been rejected, for reasons they cannot be bothered to describe.
My site offers more information than the entire rest of the web about a type of niche medical product, and, oddly enough, steers people toward the conclusion that my product is superior for its intended uses No spam, and a lot of information, and they reject the site.
I cannot understand why these arrogant 'persons' bother creating their mediocre directory, aside from their obvious venal traits in using the free work of others to sell out and make a buck for themselves. I believe that their attempts to sell, now make it clear what their motivations really are, as opposed to the altruistic-sounding reasons on their sites.
I say fie, and pox on both their houses - they are mediocre directories with an attitude, and deserve to fade away into the bit-bucket of Internet history.

I have set myself a little target for the end of the year with regard my little corner of the world that will be forever Wales, and I will achieve it. My target being to make the Wales section on Skaffe bigger than the ODP section.
I will do it, I have my very own spider going out and finding sites for me as we speak lol, it has 800 now so far, although I have only got 50 on Skaffe so far :-(
Life is nice, life is fun, life is about variety.
and if the servers ever catch fire I can now sleep better safe in the knowledge that they will not call on someone who will not peee on them to put them out.

On the other hand, it's a pretty narrow niche, so it only gets 100-140 visits/day. :learn:
