Search-engine giant Google recently made a $30 million offer to buy Friendster, the hot Sunnyvale online dating site that lets users meet and date friends of their friends.
Friendster spurned the proposal, choosing instead to accept $13 million in fresh investments from venture capital firms, according to two VC insiders familiar with the events.

Interesting...
I see a problem in Google's future, and they might already be trying to address that problem. The problem is that they will undoubtedly lose some of the enormous market share of search. The solution: imprint Adsense into as much content as possible, making the Google search product sustainable once the AOL, Yahoo, Netscape et all deals fall apart [a matter of when, not if].
I felt this is why they purchased Sprinks, why they will probably make a bid to take About.com away from cash-starved Primedia, and why they'd bid on something as unrelated to search as Friendster. It's a damn good idea, because it allows them to use other people's time and money to sustain the business...f*ing genius...I love it.

As long as they don't lose focus on doing what they do best... search.
