Why is that not surprising. That's my biggest fear if they go public. Would stink.

definitely is typical of Microsoft - try to acquire something before they compete against it. "Sell to us or we'll beat you!" seems to be their way of doing things.
Microsoft is like the Six flags amusement parks: instead of building something fresh, they just buy up everything. If Google sold, then I guess that would be the end of the Google we've come to know and love and another would have to rise in their place.

Who knows, may be exactly the threat of being taken over by M$ was one of the reasons to consider IPO. It is one thing to buy a private company and another one to buy a publicly traded one...Why is that not surprising. That's my biggest fear if they go public. Would stink.
I do believe M$ are learning from their experience with Netscape. At the time they did not get the web so now that they are getting the importance of search, they are paranoid. But I do not believe they would succeed in taking over Google, besides, an M$-owned Google would totally alienate the web searchers...
