Thanks to advice from this forum, I've turned on my Google toolbar pagerank display. However, sometimes this displays a pagerank for my main page and other times it does not (says "not ranked"). Perhaps my ad blocker or zonealarm is interfering?? Anybody know what's going on?

Google's PR bar is like that. If you are checking backlinks of a site for example and then click on one of those sites, Google will show a grayed out PR. Therefore it is really not to be relied on too heavily. When in doubt, copy the URL your viewing, close your browser and open it up again and paste it back in.

that problem is common. I trick I use is to go to Yahoo, or an high pagerank site. This somehow usually jogs the toolbar into working. I then go back to my site by typing it in the address bar and it usually works.

Another problem you may be experiencing if it just goes white and not to grey (or in some way is frequently changing values) is that you may be bouncing in between different Google servers during updates when you are looking at your site.

Really? My advice is usually to turn it OFF.

One reason is because it doesn't work half the time (as you've seen).
