Hi everyone:-))

I wonder, should i submit my site to the directories with pay-to-play systems? Will it increase my SERPs positions or something? What will that give to my site.

Is there a group of directories that are really very important? notworthy.gif

What do you think about :
Zeal
Joeant
GoGuides.org
192 Directory
WhatUSeek
MultiMeta
Frequently Asked

Are they really worth to be paid for? hmm.gif

What is your separate opinion about Yahoo! Directory?

Thanks-))

Every link counts and can't hurt if they are from respected directories.

Many directories also offer free submissions. For JoeAnt.com you can sign up for one main topic and then submit as many site you want in that topic (all according to their guidelines ofcourse). Other directories of a time window where you can submit for free.

I found this link lists a whole bunch of directories and whether they're free or not (there are some errors but hey, it's free). I'm working on a new site and submitted it to all the directories listed above in the link before I've even finished the site. The good news is that it is being spidered now because of those backlinks.
Good luck,
Lise

I have dozen of such directory lists, but do not want to fill up the forum with such posts. PM me if you need the lists.

Hi listey, good to know your site is being spidered even if it's not yet fully done. I assume search engines do not wait for a site to be launched before it starts indexing web pages. New pages could be treated as updates.

I also tried submitting my site to some of those in the list you provided.

Hi ijunior,

I have been working for Directory for a long time. So i know the benefit of submission in Directory. It will increase the Search Engine Rank as well as PR will increase.
So you should go for that.

Best of luck.. thumbup1.gif

Yes, this is a very good list and I submitted our forum to many of tem as soon as we finished it and got a sufficient number of members and topics. I think it's very useful to submit sites to directories.

Directory submission is important and will always be an important factor in every SEO strategy.

Submitting to general and targeted or niche directory can be helpful for your site exposure.

I wouldn't actually say it's "important." More that it's an easy and efficient way to get some quick, easy links.

I was under the impression that links back to your site only help with PR, but have no influence on your SE ranking. Is that correct?

PR pretty much is a name for "visible measure of link popularity". On it's own, it's not really a factor of anything except for paranoia.

Link popularity IS very important, and that's the measurement of the number and weight of the links pointing to a page. Link popularity does impact rankings.

Currently, a link is a link. They all count, although maybe not all the same amount.

Teoma is the only engine known to be analyzing link relationships (communities) in terms of relevant links. But most people seem to think relevance and communities will come into play in the algos (if they aren't already).

General purpose directories group links together by type (usually) so the other links or content on the same page with your listing are probably somewhat relevant already.
