Jill, you have said that putting your company name in title tags is fine and someone should do it for branding purposes. My question is this: By putting my company name in title tag along with the keywords I am targeting, doesn't that lower the relevancy of my tag? Wouldn't it be ranked lower than one without the company name? I read something where Google likes short, to-the-point title tags. Thanks!

IMO using keyword in begning and company name at end wont affect much...

SEO is much more then limited to titles tag.. concentrate on other factors too .... site with only company name in title may also rank better then keywords in title...

I'm not Jill but to chime in here, it doesn't affect relevancy if you place company name or not. Just so long as your title tag is not too long to have certain keywords cut off in indexing process. That is why I always place keywords relevant to page first and then company name. I attempt to that in 65 characters or less. And when I say keywords I do not mean stuffing the title tag with as many words as you can get into it but creating a title tag that looks much like a book title.

I want the title tag to help in optimization efforts but I also want users to click on it as well.

If you prefer to believe what you read elsewhere over what is said here, that's your perogative!

Everyone has their own way of writing titles. All I know is long titles work great for me and my clients.

Thank you for the clarification, guys!

P.S. I never said that I believe what other sites are writing over what is written here. I just read various articles and ask questions when they arise. smile.gif

From my experience the following is pretty good both for ranking as well as for CTR:

Insert Keyword here - Domain.com

Welcome ThomanB ! hi.gif

I guess I would have to agree since what you laid out is the basic way that all of my sites are set up. lol.gif I'll add that it helps users know exactly where they are too.

Long titles seem to be be fine in my market. All the top sites have 7-10 words!

Not only do we all have our own way or writing titles, we have our own definition of "long." I try to limit mine to ten words or less, and I don't consider that long.

I limit mine to 11 words. I would never post a title only 4 words or so, as to me that would be a waste of great prime real estate. Most of my titles will always be somewhere in the 9 - 11 word range.

My average title tag is 7 - 8 words and not larger than 10. i would have to say i do get nervous at around 9 words. but now that you say your still cool at 11 words Jill, i will be able to sleep at night after writing a title tag this size. zz.gif

Nervous about what? Even if it's too long, it's no big deal, the words at the end may simply not get indexed.

I use about 12 words in my titles with success. I am led to believe also that yahoo may for example may read slightly more letters than google..
Often sites using their company name waste space (as Jill was saying this is valuable space) , useful if people search for your company name a lot or if you dont need many keywords in this title area, otherwise little point adding it, adding and optimising for more keyphrases would be more useful if appropraite (in my opinion)
