They really don't need to do an IPO...from a business perspective, I'd vote against it (though I sincerely doubt they'll consult me). Should they ultimately decide to pull the trigger though, I could see Google picking up a few interesting companies [similar to how they bought Sprinks to get the About.com distribution for Adsense]. What companies would I target?
Primedia's About.com; they already bought Sprinks, and About.com would be up for grabs too.
CNet: gain the content and assimilate it with the About.com purchase, all-the-while putting Adsense on everything.
Just my opinion though; I'd not privvy to their financials or strategic business plans (unfortunately).

If they go public, don't they run the risk of someone like Microsoft buying them up?
