Our domain that we are going to use in 2 weeks has been bought a little over a year ago and it's been parked.

Once we upload the new site to it ... will it still go through the 8-12 months sandbox? or not?

Thank you

more than likely, unless you added some content and actively went out a got some incoming links.

When you do a site:www.domain.com in Google, does a listing appear?

Here are some details on the
Google Sandbox Theory: www.fishseo.com/google-sandbox-penalty.html
also a great sandbox checking tool: www.seomoz.org/tools.php

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I've been looking through this forum and think it will be of great help! I'm glad to find it. I have lots of questions, so I will start with this one:

I have several domain names parked that I may use at some point in the future. I have read about google's "sandbox" keeping new sites from being ranked for months. I have also read that one way to avoid that is to just create a starter page for any domains that are parked just to get them up with a little content.

True? Godaddy gives a free customized started page with each domain. It is just a one page templlate that can be customized with a bit of text. Would that be sufficient or would it be better to have something a little more substantial?

Thanks! I'm sure I will have many more questions to come pertaining to my already existing site.

Even if you have some content on those domains, if there are no links pointing to them from say directories or other sites, it is not likely that Google will find them or if they do find them, keep them in their index.

When I do a search on good for site:oursitename.com google shows the listing, just one with no headline or anything like that.

Yes, you're probably going to hit the dreaded aging delay on Google. Wish I could say otherwise, but it's probably going to happen.

From everything I've seen since that started, the clock doesn't start ticking until a domain has some pages and some links pointing to it.

The sandbox and aging delay are not the same thing. The aging delay is one way to be sandboxed.

Regarding the original post, yes, my guess would be that you have a good 9 month wait ahead of you before you'll show up in google for any slightly competitive phrases.
