How to Submit
Before you start, be honest: is your site really worthy of listing? Do you really have anything that is unique or interesting? Is the cat you are submitting to looking full? submission policies and instructions. Look like they want you?
If you are sure your site belongs in DMOZ, continue on.
1. Go to DMOZ (der)
2. Find the most appropriate category - this doesn't mean shopping, or even shopping / socks, if you only sell battery powered socks. Be specific.
3. Click the "suggest URL" button.
4. Read the page - Try to abide by the rules.
5. Fill in the details honestly - Avoid hyperbole, avoid lying and imagine that you had nothing to do with the site when writing stuff.
5. Click submit.
OK, I submitted, So What Next
Go make babies. Seriously. You got nine months of time minimum to wait before it starts getting "a bit long" since you submitted. And I mean a gestational 40 weeks, not that 36 week calendar month rubbish.
If, after nine months, your site hasn't been listed, consider re-submitting. However, realise that to do so will likely put you to the bottom of the page of submission, for all those editors that sort by submission date (99.9% I would guess).
But it is really important to me, I need to KNOW, I am hurting, HURTING...
OK, first: We don't know what happened to your submission. We really don't. So there is nothing we can do on that front.
Also, now that Resource Zone no longer accept questions about submissions, there is nowhere to find out. Deal with it (get used to that phrase folks
But I heard that {INSERT CONSPIRACY THEORY HERE AND MAKE SURE TO USE THE WORD "GOOGLE" AT LEAST TWICE}
You thought wrong
No matter what anyone says, DMOZ is not a silver bullet nor some sort of panacea for the ranking ills you are suffering. Blaming DMOZ for the fact your site isn't in its rightful position of number one for {INSERT TERM HERE} is missing the point, and self delusion.
A DMOZ link is in no way vital to success, so long as success isn't defined as "getting a listing in DMOZ", and there is always something you can do that is productive (like make me laugh by posting in the Pub.)
OK smart alec, I get the point, have got anything else to say about DMOZ?
Actually, yeh I do (why am I arguing with myself? I don't know Michael, but don't take it personally
So here is a collection of my (random) thoughts on this manner:
1. DMOZ are SLOWWWWW. VERRRRRRY slow. Glaciers move faster. If they were on the freeway, a sloth would likely overtake them. Hans Moleman is a maniacal driver with road rage compared to DMOZ.
Deal with it.
2. This forum has no influence over DMOZ. Even if a moderator here is an editor there, editors only have influence over a small cat. Complaining here will not help you in any way.
Deal with it.
3. Don't expect DMOZ to change. Look, we would all like to see DMOZ doing things "better". Just don't hold your breath!
And deal with it
4. If you MUST complain here, expect to see the post closed. Life is too short.
Deal with it.
5. If they are slow in dealing with new listings, they are even slower updating listings. I mean, if a sloth is slow, and a glaciar is slower, and continental drift is even slower, and the degredation of radioactive substances is even slower still, updating a listing is slower still.
There is nothing you can do about and you are just going to have to (wait for it....)
Deal with it.
6. If you feel frustrated or like complaining, go write a Grandpa Simpson style letter and post it on your blog.
If it really starts to overwhelm you, go outside and get some of the rays from that big yellow thing in the sky named after the makers of Solaris (s-u-n?? Heard of it, never seen it
I hope that helps. If it doesn't, well, at least I feel better
