In our industry (looking at our competitors) no body is doing this. So will this give us a head start?
Thank you.

But if you can think of interesting things to discuss in your field of business, then go for it!

You don't have to use a blog to have an RSS feed... if you have lots of new content you can easily create an RSS feed to allow people to subscribe to it and keep up to date with the latest on your site.
A blog is just a fast and easy way to add content on a regular basis but it doesn't have any special seo advantages... if you are more comfortable creating regular HTML pages with your new content, it's no different than a blog.

Blogs are the first flakes of snow that can potentailly start the proverbial avalanche. We saw its dynamic forces in the 2004 elections. The queston for you is can you predict an avalanche and then drop the first flake?

Totally agree here, there are alot of businesses who do create blogs, then 4 months later there is still only 2 posts in the blog
The real advantage some blogs have that I've worked with (such as wordpress 1.5.1 +) is that some can submit the sitemap from the log in xml format now to Google sitemaps. As well, by adding the blog to My Yahoo, I find the content gets spidered a ton from Yahoo....
Not to mention automatic submission to relevant rss reader sites (if this is your thing)

ComScore networks recent analysis of the "blogosphere" stated an increase of 45% over the last year in blogging activity.
It definately has become the new craze for anybody wanting to have a website - its extremely easy to create your own website if you have no HMTL knowledge whatsoever, and more than likely another good reason for the "sudden" boom.
I must admit that i have seen great benefits to blogging, most websites that do include it are spidered quicker (from what I have witnessed) - but this is also due to the consistent content uploads and changes - which spiders love...
I do agree with Jill that you should have "something to say" before publishing a blog, something that people will read or subscribe to and will want to know more of. Alternatively just using a RSS feed to your "normal" site content should more than suffice.
