Not necessarily. You can study up on their practices, take the test and become an editor. Then you can submit sites for free, but they still need to be non-commercial. For commercial sites, there's nothing you can do, although if you have non-commercial content on the site you can submit those pages.

Zeal is for non-commercial sites. Crooksmart is for commercial sites

Zeal won't give you much benefit any more...after Dec. when MSN drops all LookSmart listings. I believe that included Zeal listings too.

Looking at the results from MSN.co.uk Looksmart has already been dropped across here. :manybounce: Microsoft did say they would be dropping it mid October on the UK Portal.

Hi everyone and good site. Looks like the Looksmart stuff is still in msn.co.uk it's just blended in with the Inktomi listings.

It will add to your Link Popularity. Also, the crawlers to index it's content I believe. I know that Google will show back links from Joe Ant listings. So yes it is worthwhile.

As for getting commercial sites on Zeal, I believe the only way to accomplish this is to use Looksmart's pay per click services. However, I think Looksmart is like a ship with a leak and everyone is waiting to see if it floats or sinks, myself included.

Taken from MSN UK Help

LookSmart Customers:

MSN has now ended our relationship with LookSmart in the UK. LookSmart continues to function as an independent Search provider in the UK and in other countries but the former "Web Directory" section is no longer shown in actual queries from MSN Search (although you can browse to a static version of the Directory here: http://uk.search.msn.../category.aspx).
