Good Morning Everyone,
I have found tons of information on this site very useful. What is the best platform to utilize for a store. We currently utilize yahoo merchant solutions, but I am not sure if this is the best platform. We are strictly a retail site of custom laser etched products. Any ideas?

Hi Jerrod-

I've used (and like) OS Commerce- it's an open-source (free) software that is relatively search friendly.

Yahoo Store is generally a fine solution as long as you are familiar with their tools for editing the code, etc.

x-cart is another that can be made search friendly with pretty much a click of a button. But I'll throw out the warning you that it's a bit difficult to get your head around the Smarty templates if you've never used them before and want to tweak some of the basic design and feature compenents.

CubeCart is supposed to be good to, especially if you like CSS. I don't have it on any of my sites (yet) but have heard from others that it's pretty good and easier to tweak than most for design stuff.

One of my clients use OS Commerce. There was a temporary glitch when they tried to integrate with their payment gateway. But it was sorted out and it is working fine.

I'm no programmer but have used OsCommerce on a family business site and for a hosting/design company I worked for. (Learned quite a bit there) Anyway, OsCommerce is good for most applications. It can get tricky if you have a lot of product options and stuff. I've had trouble getting it to install correctly sometimes. They do have good forums for help though.

I agree that osC is pretty darn good. I use it on several sites and their forums are indeed a big help as was mentioned above. There are free skins available to customize the look of your store, and many contributions to help further modify your store or add hundreds or even thousands of products at all once. There are also contributions which will help make your store SEO friendly by automatically generating title/keywords/description for every single product.
