This is becoming a growing vertical profession
Search Engine Optimization for Press Releases

Since they are spidered by Google, Yahoo, MSN News etc
and with online news growing in popularity and, because they are spidered by Search Engines and come up in SERPs, this can mean extra, long-term traffic after the press release is no longer "news."
