Howdy,

Has anyone tried ConversionRuler? How do you find that it compares with other ROI tracking programs?

Thanks,

Lydia

Jill,

Thanks and belated good morning. I read your review and it was good to hear that you are "pleased as punch" with the product. One (hopefully) last question, which I have also posted as a new topic, but anyhow... does the snippet that you need to install on your pages interfere with the "search engine friendliness" factor of the site? If so, how do you work around that?

Thank you so much, and have a successful day,

Lydia

Hey Jill,

Apologies for barging in like this, but I saw on Stuff You Might Like that you have also tried out ClickTracks. I didn't see a full-fledged review from you about that program. Would you be so kind as to inform me about the main differences about ClickTracks and ConversionRuler, and whether one of them is more applicable to certain scenarios?

Thanks again,

Lydia

We've been pleased with stats from ConversionRuler, however, there appears to be a problem that affects only pages with the ConversionRuler code. Problem is a significantly slower response time (it takes much longer for the page to come up) and there is a blank white area at the top of the browser of about 15 pixels. Pages without the ConversionRuler code come up almost instantly and begin immediately with the header. No extra white space at the top. Has anyone else had symptoms like this? Any suggestions?

Hi EH,

Yes, I have problems with that too. Mostly the code messing up my design. Apparently, CR works best with the code at the top, but then it messes my DHTML menu up. When I move it to the bottom, it doesn't seem to work for all browsers.

So yes, there are still some bugs they need to work out. I haven't noticed the slow load time, however, but if the CR servers were having some problems, I would imagine it could effect load time since the code puts a call into their server.

Jill, when you talk about having the code at the top or bottom do you mean within the <body> and </body> tags?

I haven't used ConversionRuler, but I've seen similar slow loading problems with other stats programs that use a tracking code similar to CR. In those cases, the slow page loads seemed to be caused by placing the tracking code within a table within the page which caused the page to pause until the tracking pixel loaded.

The solution was to place the tracking code just before the closing </body> tag on the site.

However, if you place it at the bottom and someone clicks through a page before the tracking code loads you'll end up with some gaps in your stats. This isn't necessarily a big deal unless you need exact stats. If that's the case, you'll probably be better off with a log file analysis system.

Yes, EH, in the body section. CR recomends putting right at the start of your <body> section. But that's where it messes up my design. B)

So now I live with not getting all my clickthrough's counted, I'm afraid. Theyt old me it has something to do with the fact that I have a dhtml menu.

DHTML menu, perhaps that is the common issue. We use SoThink DHTML menu. Another possibility is <table> structure. The CR code is also within a table.
