HI

I see a lot of post saying that people should do "301 permanent move"

I have never had a reason to do so but might have to in the near future.

How can this be done , I am using asp, html , IIS.

Is it a code thing or a server setting or both

I am currently reading a great thread on another forum where they seem to be a bit more technical about doing this using ASP code. Very interesting. Forums are addictive, I tell you!

The first thread is about doing an ASP URL Rewrite using a 404 ASP handler and 301 redirect of all asp pages to seeming static URLs. While this may not be what you're after , the method of specifying HTTP responses using ASP is clearly shown. The thread shows you how to do a 301 redirect using ASP. And the URL Rewrite part of it is quite fascinating. It's long but it's really good. Start off from here:
