HI

I see a lot of post saying that people should do "301 permanent move"

I have never had a reason to do so but might have to in the near future.

How can this be done , I am using asp, html , IIS.

Is it a code thing or a server setting or both

thanks

It can be done using code.
It can be done using a server setting.

I am currently reading a great thread on another forum where they seem to be a bit more technical about doing this using ASP code. Very interesting. Forums are addictive, I tell you!

When you get done reading it, would you either post a report, or a link. I don't know how to do it with ASP code either, but am interested in seeing how.

If it's not OK, please delete the links.

The first thread is about doing an ASP URL Rewrite using a 404 ASP handler and 301 redirect of all asp pages to seeming static URLs. While this may not be what you're after :censored:, the method of specifying HTTP responses using ASP is clearly shown. The thread shows you how to do a 301 redirect using ASP. And the URL Rewrite part of it is quite fascinating. It's long but it's really good. Start off from here:

The person who implemented that 301 Redirect/ URL Rewrite reports her success in this thread: http://www.ihelpyous...=&postid=109450

I really liked the way the whole thing is tied up so well technically with SEO in mind. Very cool!
