Site Maps - (how Much) Do They Help?
Posted 27 April 2005 - 01:57 PM
I have no problem setting up a site map for him, but I was surprised by the vehemence with which he described the need for a site map on one's site.
Site maps can be important from a usabilty standpoint, and they certainly have other benefits and can help SE's find their way around. But if you have good navigation and links to all of your pages (maybe two clicks away instead of one) are you really being hurt?
I'd appreciate any feedback.

For small sites, or ones that are being spidered fine, they are not a huge requirement for SEO purposes. Always nice to have, but no biggie if you don't.

Hmmm...maybe Scottie should set up some "Jill Advice" auto-phrases...
"Do it for the site visitors."
"Content, content, content"....
